The Hidden Danger of "Daily Peels": Why Skin Needs Guidance, Not Trends

As a professional on the shop floor, I can no longer stay silent about the growing normalization of "daily peels" and "daily glow" marketing—especially when products are labelled with vague directions like "AM or PM."

These instructions may sound simple, but without professional guidance they can lead to repeated, unnecessary disruption of the skin barrier.

When exfoliating acids are used too frequently, the skin can become chronically sensitised. Over time, this may contribute to inflammation, barrier weakening, and reduced resilience—particularly when sun protection routines are not fully aligned with aggressive exfoliation practices.

SPF and alpha hydroxy acids are currently out of sync in the way they are often used in modern skincare routines. One is designed to protect, the other to resurface—but when overused or misused together, the balance can be lost.

This is especially important for younger skin, sensitive skin, melanin-rich skin, and mature skin, where barrier recovery and biological response may require more consideration and less frequency—not more aggression.

This is why I created the Modern Skin Concept™—a framework designed to bring awareness back to skin biology, barrier protection, and responsible use of active ingredients.

We are not anti-science. We are asking for better alignment between exfoliation, protection, and real skin health understanding.

Heavy acids such as glycolic acid and even frequent lactic acid use should not be treated as daily essentials. These ingredients require professional oversight and thoughtful frequency. In many cases, night-only use, once to three times per week, is more than sufficient depending on the individual.

More is not always better. Repetition is not always progress.

Skin health is not a trend—it is biology.

We would love to hear your stories.
